Cancer among Kids Increasing but there is a Ray of Hope

KOLKATA, INDIA (GaeaTimes.com) — Chronic diseases are creeping into our lives and not only adults but the children are also victims of such dreaded diseases. Now a days the incurable disease Cancer is also very much prevalent among children. But most of the doctors share the opinion that cancer caught during the childhood can be cured completely if reported on time.

According to Dr Rashmi Dalvi, national president of Paediatric Hemato Oncology of Indian Academy of Paediatrics, cancer in children is not an end to life. About 70% of the cases can be completely cured on timely detection. Dr Anand Pathak, a city-based oncologists strengthened the fact by stating that once the cancer once cured in children has very least chance to re-occur. It is a common phenomena that most parents are reluctant to get their children treated fearing side-effects. But this isn’t the case. The side-effects are very low as such.

Childhood cancer is a more complicated one than cancer in adults. Mainly childhood cancer is due to genetic mutations, though some are hereditary. Most common cancer type prevalent among children is leukemia that affects organs like brain, soft tissues of the bones, central nervous system and bones.
