NEW DELHI - The national capital Monday reported 40 more cases of dengue, taking the total number of people infected with the vector-born disease in Delhi to 5,553 this season.

“As many as 40 more people have tested positive for dengue Monday. With 16 cases, Shahdara in east Delhi reported the highest number of cases,” said an official of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD).

Eight people have died because of the disease this year, the official added.

The Delhi government Oct 26 decided to release an additional amount of Rs.35 crore to the MCD for controlling vector-borne diseases, after the corporation stopped fogging operations Oct 21, blaming the Delhi government for not releasing funds after the conclusion of the Commonwealth Games.
