NEW JERSEY (GaeaTimes.com)- The McNeil Consumer Healthcare unit of Johnson & Johnson has said that it is going to recall a product lot of Tylenol capsules which has affected more than 1,20,000 bottles. The company has taken the decision after a number of users complained of a peculiar musty smell in the capsules. This is not the first Tylenol recall for the New Jersey based company though. A McNeil spokesperson said that a chemical component used in the product can cause the odor. Earlier, the company recalled the medicine twice. The Food and Drug Administration sent a warning letter to the company a few months back as it took a lot of time to react even though it had received the users complaints on Arthritis Pain Caplets a long time back.

Johnson & Johnson recalled some lots of the Tylenol in December last year and also declared that a number of other medicines would also be recalled for identical problems. The company spokespersons also said the odor may ultimately be linked with some packing components as well. The latest Tylenol recall points fingers to the manufacturing safety standards practiced by the pharmaceutical giants. The recalled pills were made in the company’s Fort Washington, Pennsylvania plant earlier this year as it has been reported. The pills were sold mostly in Puerto Rico and United States. The plant was later closed by the company after FDA found the standard adopted in it below par.

The Tylenol recall incident has come on the eve of the company’s 3rd quarter earnings report. Johnson & Johnson is one of the leading consumer brands and medicines sellers in USA and other countries.
