BEIJING - Ten dogs have been awarded the title of “doctor” in China for their public welfare activities, such as spreading happiness in rest homes and children rehabilitation centres for those suffering from autism.

The Animals Asia Foundation (AAF) organised the 6th Dog Doctor Competition in Shenzhen, Guangdong province to choose well-trained dogs as “doctors”, the China Daily reported Monday.

Dogs have to go through strict tests to judge their temper, obedience and social skills to guarantee they are not aggressive.

The first batch of dog doctors have “taught” more than 1,400 students to care for animals, according to one of the examiners.

The AAF is a Hong Kong-based charity that seeks to end cruelty to animals.
