To battle dengue, no weekly off for MCD staff

NEW DELHI - The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has cancelled weekly holidays of all its staff until the monsoon ends to check the outbreak of dengue, it was announced Wednesday.

According to MCD, 297 people tested positive for the vector-borne disease in the city till Wednesday.

Referring to the alarming rise in numbers, MCD Commissioner K.S. Mehra said no civic body employee would get weekly leave till the monsoon season gets over.

Mehra said that intermittent rains and humid weather conditions had led to the breeding of mosquitoes.

The maximum of 49 cases have been reported from south Delhi.
