LONDON - A new research has suggested that pomegranate juice can help combat kidney disease.

The super food has long been hailed for its health giving properties thanks to its high levels of antioxidants.

Now a research team, led by Dr Batya Kristal, of the Western Galilee Hospital in Israel, claims the fruit’s juice can stave off complications in kidney patients on dialysis, including slashing the high death rate from infections and associated heart problems.

In a study, patients received either pomegranate juice or a placebo drink before dialysis, reports the Daily Express.

Those who had pomegranate juice fared better because the antioxidants helped to neutralise harmful compounds in the body. (ANI)
