SAN FRANCISCO (GaeaTimes.com)- The study of Progeria, one of the rarest and deadliest disease on Earth, is providing useful clues to scientists about the aging process of normal human beings. Scientists conducting research in the field of Progeria have voiced that most of the progeria patients die of common risks that come with aging like strokes and heart attacks. While there are nearly about 68 patients all over the world at present who are suffering from this deadly disease, all of them are special and key to the study of human aging.

A study published this week in the journal of Arteriosclerosis, Thrombosis, and Vascular Biology has identified a particular protein behind aging. The protein named “progerin” reportedly increases in the body as a person grows older. Scientists compared the level of “progerin” in two deceased progeria kids with that of other 29 corpses whose age ranged from one year to 97 years. The study found the presence of progerin in much higher level in the arteries of children with progeria than in normal death.

The director of The Progeria Research Foundation, Leslie Gordon said to media sources that by the study one of the rarest disease on Earth, scientists are “truly now discovering more about ourselves”. Mentioning the findings to be completely “mind-blowing”, Leslie Gordon held that the progeria kids are key to the study as aging and heart disease are governed by multiple factors which need to be separated to get a clear idea of them. These include factors like diet and exercise along with many others. She held that the study of the protein molecule, progerin, will help them to find out the relationship between aging and heart disease.
