One more swine flu death in Orissa; toll reaches four

BHUBANESWAR - The swine flu toll in Orissa rose to four with the death of a 27-year-old Biswanath Ekka, a software engineer, in Bhubaneswar.

According to the hospital officials, Ekka was admitted to SCB Medical College on Thursday morning in a critical condition, where he died in the afternoon.

“Ekka was admitted in a private nursing home at Bhubaneswar, he was brought to this hospital in a very serious condition and in the afternoon he died despite our efforts,” said B.Moharana, Superintendent of SCB medical college hospital.

Ekka was infected with H1N1 virus and came recently from Hyderabad. He worked there with Software Development Company.

His family members were also medically examined and given preventive medication.

The state health minister, Prasanna Acharya said that Orissa government is taking adequate measures to check its spread and is advertising through newspapers and electronic media to create awareness amongst the people.

“Government has kept a very strict watch on the development on the situation and now we have been trying to educate the people and sensitize the people. We are advertising in newspapers and electronic media,” said Acharya.
