176 cases of swine flu reported in Delhi Thursday

NEW DELHI - At least 176 cases of swine flu were reported in the national capital Thursday - the highest for a single day - taking the number of people affected with influenza A (H1N1) virus to 5,417, a health department official said

“At least 176 positive cases of swine flu were reported in the last 24 hours. This is highest in one single day till now,” Anjana Prakash, state’s assistant nodal officer for swine flu cases, told IANS.

The number of affected with the virus in Delhi is highest in the country. The state has reported 25 swine flu deaths.

The state government has decided to launch fresh awareness campaign in the capital in view of the rising number of cases.

With the onset of winter, the second wave of the flu is expected to hit many more people.

The flu is in the community now. But as of now, it is still not the second wave, Prakash added.
