BOSTON — Theodore Ryland Sizer, a leader in education reform who led Ivy League education departments, has died after a long battle with colon cancer. He was 77.
His wife, Nancy Sizer, says the author and educator died at home in Harvard, Mass., on Wednesday night.
Sizer was born in New Haven, Conn. He graduated from Yale University and earned his doctorate from Harvard University.
He was dean of the Harvard Graduate School of Education and led Brown University’s education department.
He also served as headmaster of Phillips Academy in Andover, Mass.
