WASHINGTON - Adolescent depression and anxiety disorders are actually two distinct psychiatric disorders, says an expert at Utrecht University.

Dr. William W. Hale III and his colleagues conducted a five-year, longitudinal study of secondary school adolescents.

Every year, they measured the depressive and anxiety disorder symptoms of the adolescents.

They concluded that while adolescent anxiety and depression were strongly related to each another, adolescent depression and anxiety disorder symptoms were in fact best classified as two distinct disorders.

The study has been published in the Journal of Child Psychology and Psychiatry. (ANI)
